A Note about Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish.
Just like in the olden days, your new guitar has been finished with a high-quality nitrocellulose lacquer. Nitro (as it’s commonly known) is highly desirable for its vintage appearance and the peculiar ways it ages. At Iconic we hand-apply the thinnest layers of a proprietary nitro formulation (free of plasticizers) intended to replicate the aesthetics and breathability of the original finishes from the early ‘50s. Checking, those fine cracks and fissures, are deliberate and absolutely normal. They do not indicate a defective finish. In addition, nitro may be more prone to dinging, chipping or developing areas of wear compared to guitars finished in polyurethane. These characteristics are a big part of the appeal of vintage and vintage-style instruments, and the reason players choose nitro!
